Exchange Holidays for 2010

We hereby inform you that there will be no trading activities in either of the equities market (Mega Bolsa), or the corporate fixed-income securities markets (Bovespa Fix and Soma Fix), or the derivatives market (GTS), and BM&FBOVESPA will be closed for business, on the following week days of year 2010.

  • January 1 (Friday), New Year’s Day
  • January 25 (Monday), São Paulo City Anniversary (a city holiday)
  • February 15 (Monday), Carnival
  • February 16 (Tuesday), Carnival
  • April 2 (Friday), Good Friday
  • April 21 (Wednesday), Tiradentes Day
  • June 3 (Thursday), Corpus Christi Day
  • July 9 (Friday), 1932 Constitutionalist Revolution Day (state holiday)
  • September 7 (Tuesday), Independence Day
  • October 12 (Tuesday), Our Lady of Aparecida Day
  • November 2 (Tuesday), All Souls’ Day
  • November 15 (Monday), Proclamation of the Republic Day
  • December 24 (Friday), Christmas Eve
  • December 31 (Friday), New Year’s Eve

Additional Information

1. On February 25 (Ash Wednesday), business in the BM&FBOVESPA markets will open at 1 p.m. (Brasilia time).

2. Transactions will not be registered in the OTC derivatives market on the above-listed dates.

3. Transactions will not be executed or registered in the spot U.S. dollar market on the above-listed dates, with the following exceptions:

  • January 25 (Monday), São Paulo City Anniversary;
  • July 9 (Friday), 1932 Constitutionalist Revolution Day;
  • December 24 (Friday), Christmas Eve, up to 12 noon.

4. Transactions will not be executed or registered in the government securities market (Sisbex) on the above-listed dates, with the following exceptions:

  • January 25 (Monday), São Paulo City Anniversary;
  • July 9 (Friday), 1932 Constitutionalist Revolution Day.

5. The settlement date for transactions executed on the government securities market must not coincide with December 24 or December 31, 2010.

Transactions on the spot U.S. Dollar market for settlement on December 24 or December 31, 2009 will not be accepted.

Clearinghouses

On February 17 (Ash Wednesday), when business in the BM&FBOVESPA markets opens at 1 p.m., there will be no change in the settlement times of the Clearinghouses, and compliance with collateral calls and cash settlements will observe the form and timeline assigned for each transaction.

On holidays in the city of São Paulo, and on holidays in the state of São Paulo, transactions will be registered by the FX Clearinghouse and settled by the Securities and FX Clearinghouses.

On December 24 (Christmas Eve), while there may be trading and transaction registration activities in the spot U.S. Dollar market, transactions will not be settled on that day.

In the case of the New York City banking holidays listed below:

  • The settlement of obligations under transactions in agricultural commodity derivatives will take place on the immediately subsequent business day in New York City;
  • The FX Clearinghouse will merely register transactions pursuant to the regulations which are currently applicable, and settlement activities will take place only on the immediately subsequent business days both in the cities of Brasilia and New York.

  • January 18 (Monday) – Martin Luther King Day
  • February 15 (Monday) – Presidents' Day
  • May 31 (Monday) – Memorial Day
  • July 5 (Monday) – Independence Day
  • September 6 (Monday) – Labor Day
  • October 11 (Monday) – Columbus Day
  • November 11 (Thursday) – Veterans Day
  • November 25 (Thursday) – Thanksgiving Day

Tesouro Direto

On January 25 (São Paulo City Anniversary) and July 9 (1932 Constitutionalist Revolution Day), the Tesouro Direto market will be open for business during regular hours, and custodian agents are expected to observe regular business hours and transaction processing routines.

This calendar of holidays may be adjusted or altered in the future. Should this occur, BM&FBOVESPA will promptly communicate any such changes to the market participants.
